Pseudo Review: Wanted

I had zero interest in seeing Wanted. The trailers did nothing for me (it had that “videogame” movie stench to it) and I’d never read the comic book it was based on. However, I had a chance to check it out for free, and I’m not one to decline free stuff (a box of free condoms caused my first child). I gotta say, unlike the condoms, this freebie didn’t let me down.

Wanted is a pretty entertaining flick. It’s kind of a retarded cousin to Fight Club, a retarded cousin that’s also on crystal Meth. The movie tells the tale of a group of Assassins known as The Fraternity. The Fraternity was created hundreds of years ago by weavers (yep, I said weavers) with the sole purpose of snuffing out evil before it happens. Kill one, save 1000.

Typically, I hate seeing Matrix like effects in a movie unless it’s actually The Matrix (and even then they were overused). However, as spastic/bullet time/CGI/MTV editing/ type effects go, they were used quite well in Wanted. I really dug the action scenes and it features some truly awe inspiring shoot ‘em ups!

There were a few giant logic holes, but Wanted really isn’t the type of movie you should worry too much about logic. It’s a fun flick with some awesome visuals and it’s unapologetically “R” rated. I was in to the characters and I’m actually pretty curious to see where the story goes from here. There’s even a pretty good ass shot of Angelina Joilie. All in all, Director Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Day Watch) did his job nicely.
