Pseudo Review: Batman – Gotham Knight
The best Animated Batman I’ve seen since Justice League Unlimited went off the air. We even have the awesome vocal cords of Kevin Conroy voicing batman again, how geektastic is that?Batman: Gotham Kinght is comprised of 6 animated shorts. It takes place in the Batman Begins Movie universe, but we get nods to comic continuity with appearances from non-movie villains such as Deadshot and Killer Croc. The tales are separate, but there is a loose narrative thread that they all follow.
I’m not a huge fan of anime or manga, but this is the most gorgeously animated superhero movie I’ve seen since The Incredibles. Each short is animated by a different artist, so some may be put off by the style change from story to story. I personally loved the unique look of each segment.
The 2 disc DVD set has some pretty cool bonus features which include select episodes from the amazing Batman: The Animated Series. One of the episodes we get happens to be my all time favorite, Over the Edge. Seriously, it’s one of the best Batman stories ever told in any medium.
If you’re a fan of Batman or simply a fan of animation in general, you’ll want to take a gander at this DVD. It also gives me something to watch while I count down the nanoseconds until The Dark Knight comes out next week.
